Keep Your Garden Pest Free

Don’t Let Pests Ruin Your Garden.

As we often say here on the Green Wing blog, it’s far easier to prevent an infestation than it is to treat it after the fact. That goes for garden infestations as well. Keeping your plants healthy and strong is the best prevention for insect infestation. Here are some easy, DIY garden tips to keep your garden organic and your plants strong.

If you think you might have a garden insect problem, the first step is to call for an inspection. Call Now: (321) 499-9114

Keep Your Soil Healthy: Use Grass Clippings As Fertilizer

Using grass clippings as fertilizer is a simple, zero waste boost for the soil in your garden. According to Lagoon Loyal, the grass is 90% water and decomposes quickly. Like any other fertilizer, this boost will make your plants stronger, making it easier to fend off insects and infections.

When you use your grass clippings in your garden, you prevent them from getting into the water, too. Too much organic decomposition in the water can remove oxygen, killing fish and plants.

Water Early In the Morning

Watering early in the morning is an easy, natural way to keep plants watered but not too moist. According to the Planet Natural Research Center, later in the day humidity reaches its peak. If plants are inundated with water and humid air, they’re more likely to breed fungus.

Plant The Right Varieties

Be sure you’re setting your garden up for success by planting what’s right for your area. Good House Keeping suggests paying special attention to the light, moisture, drainage, and soil conditions in your micro-climate. They also suggest looking at your local farmer’s market, as they’re likely to have plants suited for your climate.
